This vertical abstract painting evokes the land of Israel as a living body on the verge of tears. Painted in rich oils with delicate touches of gold leaf, the upper half is a deep, textured blue—like sea and sky fused together—crossed with rough strokes of earthy browns and greens that suggest mountains, fields, and ancient terraces. These horizontal layers suddenly break at the edge of the canvas, spilling downward into a cascading torrent of whites, sands, and muted golds.
